Stumptown Coffee
Independent Coffee Roasters
Stumptown Coffee Roasters is a delicious independent coffee roaster in
Portland, Seattle and New York.
Up until early 2008, I lived in Chicago and then moved back home to
Yakima, WA. I hadn't heard of Stumptown until mid-2009 when I
discovered a new coffee house called Northtown Coffee. One of their
signs said "now serving Stumptown." I had no idea what I was getting
myself into.
I don't know which type I tried, but it was more than good, it was
something I'd never forget. I then moved to Vancouver, WA, right across
from Portland, OR. There are several branded Stumptown Coffee Shops in
the area as well as in Seattle, WA and one in NYC at the Ace Hotel Cafe.
Within these Stumptown
locations, you are in for a real surprise as they have so
many delicious varietals to choose from. As they say on their Web site:
"Varietals have a profound impact on the cup profile of each coffee on
our menu in the same way that wine grapes impact the flavor profile of
vineyards across the globe."
Some Stumptown Varietals Include:
Bourbon, which is "known for its
complex acidity and tremendous balance." Two of the coffees they
package with bourbon are Decaf Honduras Finca El Puente and Guatemala
La Concepcion Buenavista among others.
Jember, which have "distinct sugar
browning notes of caramel, maple syrup and brown sugar itself." They
package this varietal with Indonesia Gajah Aceh.
I've always known there were a lot of different coffees or varietals,
but until recently, my palate wasn't ready for the taste of coffee.
Luckily, it has changed and I'm within striking distance to two of the
major coffee meccas -- Portland and Seattle.
I encourage each and everyone reading this page to try the Coffee
Roasters Stumptown. They have 10 or 15 more varietals with tons of
different coffee beans to choose from.
They also have an awesome coffee brewing guide
on how to prepare the prefect press post at home. I believe you can
only purchase Stumptown at the shop. Nothing online as far as I can
tell.
Also, if you're looking for cool Stumptown coffee mugs, stop by their
cupping tasting room at the Annex in Portland.
Tell me about your favorite Stumptown taste on Twitter.
Enjoy!
