Gourmet Coffee
Rich Aroma, Bold Flavor
Gourmet coffee is like an art form - with precision and skill, one will
enjoy a finely brewed bold flavor marked with rich aromas. However,
without patience and lack of caring and you're left with a regular cup
of joe.
Thought to be discovered by the ancient Ethiopians, coffee beans were
"officially" introduced in the middle of the fifteenth century, in the
Sufi monasteries of the Yemen in southern Arabia. However, the first
coffee roasters didn't appear until coffee spread into Arabia where it
was first roasted and brewed.
The morning cup of
coffee has an exhilaration about it
which the cheering influence of the
afternoon or evening cup of tea
cannot be expected to reproduce.
- Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., "Over the Teacups," 1891
Fastforward
to mondern day American and you're sure to find a coffee house on every
corner... sometimes two on every corner. However, the quality of some
of these establishments is just not acceptable. Nowadays, "coffee
baristas" have just become "coffee pourers" and that's sad.
Have
I become a coffee snob because I've sworn off the standard "bought from
the aisle named 'coffee, etc.' at your local grocery store" ... maybe.
While snobbish might be my tendancy, I prefer "coffee conesieur" in
light of the fact that I know coffee can be so much more than a drab
cup of black sludge.
Instant coffee lacks the very aroma that
stimulates the nostrils. And without that coffee aroma, you're missing
out on hints of honey, fruit, spicy, buttery, vanilla, caramel, etc.
Who
knew coffee could be so much more than a stimuliant to brighten up your
glazed-over eyes from the previous day's adventures!!!
Within this site, I'll discuss a variety of information, including:
- Fair trade coffee... why, where, impact, pricing, etc.
- Coffee beans and where to find the best
- Coffee makers and how to select one
- Coffee tables and why you need one
- Coffee mugs and the correct way to pour, drink, etc.
- Tea and coffee and why coffee is better
- Coffee break and why it should be longer
- Organic coffee and why you should be drinking it
- Coffee pots vs. coffee machines
So
sit back, brew your favorite coffee bean, put your reading glasses on,
take out a pen and paper and get ready to learn about everything
gourmet coffee!
